Future Bloggers
This Webblog assignment is a great way for students to make there writings and thoughts public. It allows students to share thoughts and ideas as well as openly comment and view ones writngs. Though this is a great way for class communication I do not think I will continue to update my site once this English 110 class is over.
Rules and conventions
An op-ed is very open to all ideas and shouldn’t be limited. The writer of an op-ed is to voice his own opinion on his or her owns writings. Though the writer is not limited to topics or ideas they should be focused to one specific area that the writer may chose. To keep an op-ed ed interesting rather than one boring analysis the writer should voice his or her opinions whereever possible along with adding humor or interesting facts to keep the reader happy and involved.
Strategies and Structures
The main strategy in this work of writing is comparitive writing. This auther uses incidents and activities of a previous president and his actions to compare to the new upcoming presient and his predicted actions. This would be the use of logos, or using logic and facts to compare two ideas. The author uses little pathos, his idea is not to persuade rather than to introduce his ideas and let the reader make the decisions.
Popular vs Academic
There are concrete differences between writting to a popular audiance, and writing to an academic audiance. Upon writting to an academic audiance your evidence and information must be researched and correct, upon being acredited. This type of writting is formal and technical. Through speaking to a popular audiance, the tone is far different. The group usually has some general knowlege upon the topic so little research is needed on the subject. The group isn’t looking for a hard concret paper, rather than a general idea.
Blah
I tend not to like writting all that much, however I enjoy writting my own papers, which is why i was dreading his research paper. All that specific information that has to be cited and CORRECT. All these rules make a paper difficult. However, I spent a lot of time on my paper and it ended up not being so bad after all. I guess English Class isn’t so bad afterall!
My 0p-Ed
Here in our town locally we have a historic monument. A large building thats housed thousands of prisoners within its walls. The Mansfield Reformatory was nearly completed in 1896 when its first inmates were brought through its front gates. But just thirty three years after the first inmates the prison shut its doors and transferred all who owed their debts. The prison was shut down for poor and dangerous living conditions. The cells were considered too small for even a single inmate, many had two. The cramped quarters aroused a law suit that eventually shut the prison down. Even though the prison is no longer in use to house criminals, the public shows great interest. The castle like structure was created by architect Levi T. Scofield. He combined three different architecture styles from the Renaissance period. The period in time was also known was the time of “rebirth.” Levi believed that using this style would encourage the inmates that being in the prison was a chance for rebirth, a chance to start over and come clean to be a good person again.
Many individuals are attracted to this location due to the buildings immense size. This Castle like structure has massive walls that surround a courtyard. Bars in every window that are meant to keep inhabitants in, and the largest cell block ever built that rises a towering 6 stories! Though this building is a magnificent sight from the outside with its precision place bricks, the inside is less of a beautiful site, and looks more like a degraded castle one would see in a movie. Paint chipped walls and rust on every piece of metal, the prison was shut down because it was so inhabitable it was nearly toxic. The prisoners and guards were breathing in air born partials that were sickening, eventually poisonous.
*-*Today the prison is maintained regularly and the necessary fix’s are being maintained and paid for mostly by donations. The prison is kept for many reasons. It is an attraction that brings individuals from all walks of life and all parts of the country. Many attractions are further set up to further bring in visitors. The Haunted Prison Experience is a tour during October for strong individuals of all ages. The Ghost Hunt is a chance for individuals to walk or even stay the night for ones chance to spot a ghost sighting! Also for those less strong individuals there is a basic tour, for those to get a chance to see the prison up close and in person, without spooks and creeps.
=] There are many reasons for people to come visit the Ohio State Mansfield Reformatory. From appearance to and size to ghost stories and ghost sightings. Each individual has his or her own sense of attraction, along with media, movie stars and just the every day person. The architect Levi probably never envisioned his masterpiece would create so much publicity and gather so much media attention. However over one hundred years after his creation has been completed, thousands gather and visit yearly, for his or her own personal reasons. Whatever the case may be, everyone should take the opportunity and visit the prison in October for the Haunted Prison Experience.
Op-Ed
I found this op-ed interesting.
President Obama is facing an extremly difficult challange upon taking an oath to be the next president of the United States of America. Not only is he facing a crumbling society and economy, but a world in conflict. With so many wars going on, it has to be expensive. In fact Bush has increased the war bugdet by 85% since the year 2000! So, Obama has the daunting task of fighting and recovering from an outragous war while trying to pull our country out of an un neccessary debt.
Introduction to My Research
The topic i chose to research were the aspects of the Mansfield Reformatory that gather media and local attention. Numerous styles of architecture are incorporated in one castle-like structure that are very appealing to the eye. Decades of ghost sightings and years of tours produce an endless list of spooky stories that further grab ones attention. With the worlds largest cell block, this eerie place has an outstanding list of features and attractions that gather attention, and draw visitors from all areas of the world.
